Adopt a Boston Terrier

Boston Terrier Dog

ZoeyBear the Dog needs a home

Hi! I’m Zoey. I’m about 10 years old. I like long walks, treats, belly rubs in the sun, and hanging my head out the window on car rides.

I photograph as a Frenchie but I’m actually a Boston terrier in person. My fur is a bit lighter than we think is usual because...

I was diagnosed with Cushing’s disease of the pituitary. My skin when I came to AZBTR was thin, my coat  scratchy (like a dry kitchen sponge) and I had that distinctive Cushing’s belly. I was given Trilostane and tested after two weeks; my numbers are back to a normal level.

I'm doing very well now. I'm putting on some weight and muscle so my Cushing's belly doesn't stand out. My fur is growing back, in patches  but the vet said this was good. Cushing’s disease will not make me die any sooner than I would have without it. People worry about that when they first hear I have Cushings.

What it means for a potential adopter is, I must take Trilostane for life. I also must get tested regularly
to see if I’m over- or under-producing adrenaline (that’s what Cushing’s is). My meds may be adjusted accordingly

My meds aren't the cheapest so m
y foster mom found a more affordable source online. My next 45 days worth will cost $57.11 but she thinks she'll be able to do even better than that.

I am not on a special diet; I eat a quality salmon and sweet potato formula from Costco with  a dollop of canned pumpkin (my pills are tucked in the pumpkin so I gobble them along with everything else).

Now that I feel better, my quirky personality is shining through. Right now I live with 3 dogs. I tolerate them with the occasional bout of rough play that escalates. My foster mom thinks I wasn't socialized as a puppy and don't know any better.
I have one eye (the left one if you’re curious) that doesn’t work which causes me to nip if surprised.

I may do well in a pack with time and patience but I absolutely must have a slow introduction. I would do well as an only dog.

I am curious about my surroundings but like to retreat to my crate when I feel stress. I can often be found in there, just relaxing from my travails. I like to chew on things like Nylabones and I am a typical Boston terrier when playing with toys.

I am house-trained and leash-trained. I know my name, come and sit commands. I am practicing stay.

As for people, I am in love with them. So much so that I run at them and use them as a spring board. I am learning humans don’t like that but I occasionally forget in my haste for attention. It’s entirely possible I like children but have not been tested. I also have lapses in judgement and will jump up. I am strong and might topple smaller children.

Come to the next Meet and Greet. You may not be able to resist me!
